BUILDING A SCHOOL FOR NDUKUSI VILLAGE CHILDREN
BUILDING A SCHOOL FOR NDUKUSI VILLAGE CHILDREN
In September 2024, we learned that Ndukusi Village, a remote community in Monduli District, had no school. Determined to change this, we mobilized the villagers through the local leadership, encouraging them to work together to build a school for their children.
The Maasai community in Ndukusi has not fully embraced formal education, but with a thoughtful approach, we were able to inspire them to take action. The villagers contributed their time and effort, making bricks, digging the foundation, and sourcing building materials, to construct the first classroom for their children to begin formal pre-school education.
While construction was underway, we encouraged two local secondary school graduates to start teaching the children under the shade of an acacia tree, ensuring that learning could begin even before the classroom was completed.
As of February 2025, the classroom walls are up, but the building still requires a roof, flooring, windows, doors, and furniture. By the time it is fully completed, the children will be ready for the next level—necessitating another classroom.
Our goal this year is to build two additional classrooms (one for the advancing class and another to serve as a teacher’s office), as well as a toilet block and a kitchen. In the next phase, we plan to add three more established.
The villagers have given their best, but they have now reached their limit. We are seeking support from generous friends and well-wishers to help us complete this crucial project and provide quality pre-primary and primary education for the children of Ndukusi Village.
